ha producido un gran movimiento l\u00edrico en nuestra buena prensa: a la inversa de Braque, Picasso y Rouault, parece ser que Matisse cantaba \u00abla felicidad de vivir\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Prudentemente purificada de todo contexto social y de todo destino personal, la \u00abfelicidad de vivir\u00bb no puede ser m\u00e1s que una noci\u00f3n rom\u00e1ntica; darle a la naturaleza la apariencia de un <em>ethos<\/em> general sin preocuparse de la sociedad que la habita es un rasgo de la burgues\u00eda y de las clases medias, al menos cada vez que se colocan en una situaci\u00f3n burguesa (vacaciones, naturaleza, excursiones, Costa Azul). La proyecci\u00f3n de un humor descarnado sobre el cosmos, o la lectura de ese mismo cosmos como un dep\u00f3sito de energ\u00edas, de euforias o de malestares coagulados, en suma la impregnaci\u00f3n de la naturaleza por la psicolog\u00eda esencialista del hombre, es una conducta de secesi\u00f3n antes que de participaci\u00f3n, aunque no lo parezca. Recuerda mucho a algunas situaciones propias de los consultorios sentimentales, donde lo absoluto de los estados de \u00e1nimo enmascara o pretende paliar (es lo mismo) los fallos flagrantes de la adaptaci\u00f3n social. Cantar la \u00abfelicidad de vivir\u00bb sin postular nunca \flas condiciones, los l\u00edmites y los sacrificios de esa felicidad, solamente se puede hacer rechazando, de una manera o de otra, la historia y su combate.<\/p>\n<p>Creo que se trata, adem\u00e1s, de una noci\u00f3n contraria a la idea de gran pintura. Es sabido que a la pintura \u00abmoral\u00bb siempre le falta alguna cosa y que, opuestamente, la mala pintura pone mucha predilecci\u00f3n en unificar la naturaleza bajo alg\u00fan humor general que no guarda relaci\u00f3n con las condiciones concretas de la vida: \u00a1cu\u00e1ntas puestas de sol \u00abserenas\u00bb o \u00abtriunfantes\u00bb en el mercado de mamarrachos! La mala pintura es siempre adjetiva, se contenta con restituir uno de los modos de la vida, no su l\u00f3gica visual. Adem\u00e1s, ese modo no tiene ni siquiera la excusa, en general, de concernir a una vida hist\u00f3ricamente precisada; podemos, como m\u00e1ximo, creer que la \u00abfelicidad de vivir\u00bb tuvo un sentido real en una sociedad \u00ablograda\u00bb (aunque parcial) como la de los burgueses holandeses del siglo XVII, y que este sentido se enraiz\u00f3 suficientemente en la historia para motivar una grand\u00edsima pintura; la uni\u00f3n del <em>ethos<\/em> y de la pintura proviene en ese caso de una situaci\u00f3n compleja en la que el hombre c\u00edvico, el hombre de la historia, es reproducido en su dominaci\u00f3n c\u00f3moda de la utilidad de las cosas; adem\u00e1s, esa felicidad no se expresa necesariamente mediante el triunfo del sol, ni siquiera mediante el c\u00e9lebre fieltro de los interiores: nada m\u00e1s \u00aboptimista\u00bb que el sombr\u00edo invierno de Ruysdael, donde una casa, un puente, un hombre caminando, traen a la memoria el calor de una humanidad que <em>est\u00e1 ah\u00ed<\/em>, haga el tiempo que haga.<\/p>\n<p>Lamentablemente, nada semejante hay en Matisse, al menos, en la leyenda de Matisse, que es la que nos ocupa. De ella la felicidad sale armada con la claridad de los colores y con la redondez de las l\u00edneas, como si lo redondo y lo claro poseyesen por naturaleza la ciencia de la felicidad. Puede que estos dos adjetivos correspondan a un psicoan\u00e1lisis de la euforia. Pero no es del orden de la pintura conducir su conocimiento ni figurar en cierto modo su psicodrama; la pintura no es una terap\u00e9utica. De hecho, la \u00abfelicidad\u00bb esencial de las formas no puede ser m\u00e1s que una verdad de orden decorativo, y, por otra parte, este es, en el fondo, el elogio que nuestros periodistas han querido hacer de Matisse: su pintura es dulce a la mirada, higi\u00e9nica y alegre como un apartamento moderno o un enclave tur\u00edstico del sur. La pretensi\u00f3n de resolver el universal malestar humano con la virtud pur\u00edsima del \u00abtrabajo\u00bb, de la \u00abentereza\u00bb, de la \u00abalegr\u00eda\u00bb y de la \u00abluz\u00bb es una idea del escultismo. \u00abLa felicidad de vivir\u00bb de Matisse solamente puede ser un equivalente distinguido de \u00abtrabajar silbando\u00bb, un ap\u00e9ndice sublimado del taylorismo.<\/p>\n<p>Pero \u00a1cu\u00e1ntas \u00abdesgracias de vivir\u00bb hemos de oponer a esa est\u00e9tica de \u00abvacaciones pagadas en la Riviera\u00bb! No digo que todos los pintores deban concebir solamente <em>guernicas<\/em>. Pero, en cualquier caso, hay que ver de qu\u00e9 leyendas, de qu\u00e9 imposturas su obra puede ser el germen. En el caso de Matisse, lamento que el aspecto decorativo de su pintura y su <em>ethos<\/em> m\u00e1s soleado que solar hayan podido alimentar el mito calmante de la \u00abfelicidad de vivir\u00bb, tan querido, por extraordinario, por las revistas <em>Match<\/em> y <em>R\u00e9alit\u00e9s<\/em>, en las que no se suele despertar a los hombres de su sue\u00f1o prudente.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><p style=\"text-align: right;\">R.
