Calvo Serraller] recordar\u00e1 el art\u00edculo que, all\u00e1 por 1993, en el monogr\u00e1fico <em>Arte en la calle. La presencia de la escultura en la est\u00e9tica de la ciudad actual<\/em>, public\u00f3 con este t\u00edtulo: \u201cLa ca\u00edda de las estatuas (el monumentalismo como agujero negro de la identidad est\u00e9tica contempor\u00e1nea)\u201d. En efecto, a la pregunta formulada por Baudelaire en 1846 \u2013\u201c\u00bfPor qu\u00e9 la escultura es aburrida?\u201d\u2013, Rodin responde no s\u00f3lo bajando la escultura de su pedestal \u2013adi\u00f3s a la unidimensional solemnidad de las figuras ecuestres que cabalgan hacia la eternidad\u2026 adi\u00f3s a tronos, altares y peanas sobre los que se que encaraman patriarcas, h\u00e9roes, m\u00e1rtires\u2013; Rodin no s\u00f3lo responde trayendo la escultura a tierra, sino que la sit\u00faa en un t\u00fa a t\u00fa dialogante, a la altura del interlocutor. As\u00ed que <em>El pensador<\/em> de Rodin no s\u00f3lo piensa, como pensaba el pensativo <em>Juliano de M\u00e9dicis<\/em> de Miguel \u00c1ngel \u2013ambas esculturas tienen la potencia expresiva que les da el estar esculpidas desde la fuerza interior del propio pensar\u2013, no s\u00f3lo expresa la idea de pensar, sino que incita al pensamiento. A esa incitaci\u00f3n, a esa interlocuci\u00f3n entre la escultura y quien \u201chabla\u201d con ella, se le llama arte contempor\u00e1neo.
